Spatial Abilities
Training spatial thinking through play
Spatial thinking can be improved through targeted practice. While such training methods have so far been taught e.g. with exercise books, Spatial Abilities aims at an interactive, virtual and three-dimensional training software within the context of a videogame. This game-based virtual environment will contain exercises that build on each other, train various aspects of spatial thinking, improve them through play, and make individual progress measurable and comparable. The tool is planned to be available as a tablet, desktop, and virtual reality application.
We see high relevance for this development, as it trains prerequisites needed in the study of STEM subjects. This can help to eliminate disadvantages and create equal opportunities in studies. In the context of advancing digitalization, which can be seen in virtualization of work and entertainment environments, in the «metaverse», in «e-banking» and «e-sports», etc., the tool can become an important aid for training the use of virtual worlds and overcoming barriers.
